The Wall is gone

As promised, the construction started on Tuesday.  Already, the wall between the old kitchen and the patio is gone and the old patio door is reinstalled in the new wall.  It makes a huge difference.

One of the things my mother always struggled with was finding room for a dining room table.  Since both my parents were only children and their parents lived in the area, we ended up hosting Christmas, Easter and birthdays at our house.  That was usually 8-9 people and sometimes more.  Mom had a dining room table next to the wall by the back door (above).  There really wasn’t a lot of room for it and when there were 8-10 people sitting there, it became quite crowded.

Family gathered around the Christmas table. I'm the one with the big hair.

With the wall gone, the old useless patio can be used for our dining room table.  Even though we are only adding about 80sf, already the room feels bigger.  Hopefully when we get the cabinets in, it will still have that same feeling.

That little patio space was never used except for storage.

I also took the opportunity to walk around the front of the house.  All I can say is that we are definitely prepared for Halloween.

The yard used to be nice

We probably should at least mow the lawn.

Looks like we have our work cut out for us in the front yard.

My husband is trying to finish up the demo before the construction workers catch up to him.

The new finish date is the first week of November.  Back to packing up our present house.
