and it’s 1/3 less than the first estimate. How can that be?
So, we are using the company that gave us the second estimate. My husband, Corby, has worked with this company before and has confidence in them. Not so much with the other guy.
My husband is an insurance adjuster by trade and he looks at estimates and damage to buildings every day. He’s familiar with the cost of things and what needs to be done on a job. He’s also familiar with ways contractors work and how they make their money. We are all for giving a contractor a fair price for over-seeing the job. But, the first contractor wanted to add his profit to things that we would be doing ourselves, like hiring the cabinet makers, designing the kitchen and bathrooms, buying the appliances, etc. We were willing to give him profit on installation, but not on the things we were totally responsible to do. Plus, he was about $50,000.00 higher than the second guy. That is a huge difference.
So, we are signing the contract this week and finally we are going to get started.’
